Evolutions are conducted outside at our Training Facility with discarded vehicles that are picked up by the city. In this training evolution, the crews are working with a vehicle placed on it's side. This allows us to train and learn new ways in regards to one of our greatest concerns to this type of extrication, stabilization.

Here the vehicle is stabilized using the "A-Frame" technique. Stabilization bars are placed to create an "A" to support the vehicle. You can see the 1" tubular webbing that is used to keep the base of the bars from sliding or "kicking" out, causing the vehicle to tip over possibly injuring a firefighter or a potential victim inside. |

Here the crew is removing the passenger door with the vehicle still on it's side. Note that the roof has been removed prior to the door being taken off. Removing a door is a simple procedure in itself. But removing a door with the vehicle on it's side makes the simple procedure very complicated, and dangerous.
