Training on Cold Water Rescue Techniques allow us to rescue people that have wandered onto thin ice and have fallen into frigid water.  This training is conducted on an annual basis.

With the opening of the new Plymouth Aquatic Center, our annual Cold Water Training is done at this facility.  It allows us to train with varying water depths that will be encountered during an actual rescue.

We train in the not-so-simple maneuver of placing an unconscious victim with possible head and neck injuries safely onto a longboard while treading water.

The members were all given the chance to put on a Stearans Cold Water Rescue Suit and walk around to get used to the restrictions of the bulky water proof suits.  The affectionately termed "Gumby Suit" protects the firefighter from the effects of exposure from natural elements.

Maneuvering in the water while wearing a "Gumby Suit" is challenging at best.  The suit holds air and maintains a positive buoyancy allowing the rescuer to float.  Therefore, the members train to navigate through the water while floating in the suit.
